Editorial Overview
Join in the revelry when the gong goes off inside this miniscule Asian themed lair in the East Village: It means the gorgeous waitresses are about to pass a round of free shots out to everyone. Aside from free booze, Orchid Lounge is a special place because of its duality. Bottle service can be had in the few banquettes on either side of the brick walled room, but the priority for sitting there really goes to the first group of twenty-somethings that nab it. Others grab a seat at the bar to order one of the reasonably priced and well-balanced cocktails (including a fantastic and deceiving lychee martini), bopping heads to the various rock, pop, and Top 40 tunes coming from the DJ booth. Orchid Lounge feels clubby on weekends when it gets packed, but is useful during the week for a subdued evening. If you stay late enough, you'll not only get to reap the benefits of the gong twice, but a dapper gentleman calling himself "the Pimp" might show up to take your picture for $4. |
