Editorial Overview
If you blink, you'll miss the Houston street entrance adjacent to Dos Caminos SoHo, and you'll be sorry because what lies through the door and up the stairs is one of the city's most enchanting experiences: Master mixologist Audrey Saunders is at the helm of this casually luxe lounge, where the emphasis is on gin cocktails and the Asian ambiance, which both take their cue from the storied Pegu Club in 19th Century IndoChina. While you won't find displaced noblemen from Victorian England, you will find Audrey's interpretation of the Pegu Club's signature cocktail, which, like every other drink in house, is made from freshly squeezed fruit juices and top shelf liquors. Since these cocktails are drinkable works of art, they'll take longer to prepare than you may be used to, but it's always a pleasure to take in the jazz soundtrack, gracious hospitality, and delightful surroundings while you wait. The cocktail enthusiasts of all ages never create too much noise, so Pegu is a great spot to go with someone you want to heavily converse with. |
