Editorial Overview
Ultra seems like it was dreamed up by an eco-minded lounge lizard who felt that a Rocky Mountain high might fare well in Manhattan: Twiggy branches hang from the ceiling in the boxy black room, and streamlined mid century wood patterned walls rise above the angular black leather banquettes in the middle of the dance floor. Those getting the best high party in the private staircase accessed second story "tree house," whose ceiling-high shrubs shade the VIP revelry. They can see you, but you can'xt really see them, and that's entirely the point of the exclusive skybox-type lounge. You'll forget about the separate and unequal quarters once you've downed an Ultra-flavored $15 cocktail at the crystal walled bar. Animated graphics and random film footage of nature movies play in stereo against several screens high above the dance floor, which hosts a mostly thirtysomething and early 40's crowd getting down to Top 40 hits thrown in with an 80's/early 90's dance set. |
